Short-term Building Redesign and Rehab Project Manager

About Us

The Social Justice Center Board is looking for a short-term project manager for building redesign and rehab in order to accommodate changing needs of member organizations. Established in 2000, the Social Justice Center, Inc. was created to serve as a local non-profit office building that not only houses critical organizations to our community, but also allows smaller non-profit start-ups to grow their organizations with an affordable rent and while maintaining access to all of the necessary amenities for an office.

Current member organizations include the Tenant Resource Center, Dane County TimeBank, Madison Community Cooperative, Sanctuary Homelessness Storage, Madison Community Cooperative, Books to Prisoners, Progressive Dane and Friends of the State Street Family.

Project Details

Pre-development - November - December
Coordinate design process with member organizations and their chosen architect
Assist Board with finalizing scope and timeline of project
Develop plan for budgeting/financing for project
Assist in securing financing for project

Development - January - March

Lead solicitation and engagement of contractors
Coordinate construction and rehab efforts, including:
Ensuring needed permits and inspections
Staging of tenant relocation and storage
Managing of project contractors
Working with volunteers
Implement new leases

We expect this project to happen in phases, between November 2017 and March 2018, and anticipate a variable workload of approximately 10-20 hours a week. Project Manager will be expected to communicate progress back to the Board and/or designated project oversight committee at regular intervals and as needed.

Currently the SJC has approximately $8000 budgeted for this project and expects to seek additional funding.

The Board reserves the right to negotiate terms and conditions of any contract relevant to this project.
