Volunteers Needed at SJC!

Want to help SJC and make a difference in the community? Volunteer with us!

SJC has lots of opportunities to get involved, with new and expanding programs and important events coming up. Check out the different volunteer position summaries to learn more.

Resource Advocates

Resource advocates assist individuals in identifying programs related to specific needs and make connections to available resources. They help visitors fill out paperwork, make phone calls, connect with case managers or other service providers. Resource advocates also follow up on requests for help made online and on the phone. To become a resource advocate, there is a core curriculum of training modules on local social services and resources that volunteers are required to complete, as well as training on topics including trauma-informed practices and de-escalation. All of these are free and online and can be completed at one’s on pace, with a group, or while seated at the greeters desk!

Front Desk Greeters

Volunteer Greeters welcome walk-in clients, visitors, and community partners to the SJC and monitor the shared building spaces and supplies. They facilitate phone and e-mail communication between the public, the SJC, and its member organizations. Volunteers play an integral role in supporting our program by assisting in connecting individuals to needed resources, helping monitor computer access times, and taking part in relevant trainings.

Pantry Volunteers

Pantry volunteers are needed to clean out, stock, and organize our outdoor pantry, at the corner of Williamson Street and Few Street, with nonperishable items in inventory. We have weekly open pantry hours that we need to staff with volunteers and are eager to increase the number of times per week the pantry is open! Pantry volunteers also help facilitate disbursements of perishable and essential items from the indoor pantry, located in the basement of SJC. Volunteers can help to grow the inventory by obtaining in-kind or monetary donations. Providing one’s own transportation to retrieve pantry items from the community is desirable though not required. When possible, volunteers will also respond to specific pantry requests made through our online request form and during open pantry hours.

Other

We also can use help around the facility with building and grounds upkeep and we always need more volunteers to help our at fundraising events. View upcoming volunteer events on our events calendar.
