Is your org looking for a new home?
Join the Social Justice Center!
We’re excited to be re-opening the Social Justice Commons aka “the Workspace” in the Spring – a multi-purpose, adaptable workspace at the front of our building that’s part co-working space, part community resource hub. SJC can welcome more member organizations to our community! We have room in the workspace and our incubator organizations with missions related to community-building or social justice (including groups with a justice-oriented structure, like worker-coops or unions).
If your organization is interested, contact Annie to tour the space or learn more!

Organizations becoming members of the workspace as of April: Madison Mutual Aid Network Coop, IWW, Madison InfoShop, Progressive Dane, DSA Madison — and more!
NOTE: This is a flexible workspace, which means sharing space at times and communicating with fellow coworking organizations to stay up to date with scheduled events or activities. The SJC will also offer various programs for the community in the workspace (public computer time, community partner drop-in hours, resource navigation assistance etc.) a couple times throughout the week. During these times, the workspace would still be available for coworking member organizations to use, but there would be some activity happening in part of the workspace.
For relevant SJC policy documents, including our standard lease, click here. SJC is a collaborative community where members are asked to do their part to maintain our shared community space. “Their part” here means contributing in any number of ways according to one’s abilities and capacity. Think chores for grown-ups. For workspace organizations, this will include occasional shifts at the front desk (training will be provided and you’re welcome to do your own work while sitting at the front desk!).

Incubator Organizations: Wisconsin Books to Prisoners, LGBT Books to Prisoners and Family Farm Defenders!
The video to the rights provides a quick look at the space so you can get a feel for the environment (it is filmed at night, there is some natural light during the day). However, we are planning on changing the layout so that incubator spaces are more like cubicles. We have not decided on whether we’ll use cubicle walls or some other way to provide privacy, but the idea is for organizations to have more space to themselves that extends beyond their desk. But we are more than happy to adapt and change this plan if your group would like to join SJC and can picture a more ideal layout!
